Hi everybody,
I have been lurking here for three years! We have finally decided to get a Dane.
We are not interested in Breeding or showing. I fell
in love with this breed as a child. I had my first Dane at the age of
18months.She was my greatest friend and the reason I am drawn to the breed.
My first word was her name, my earliest memories are of her. I love the
Danes soulful temperament. That is what we are interested in - true to the
breed temperament. However I am not niave about the amount of work and committment and sometimes trouble, involved in owning a Dane.My childhood love once drug my mother down the block chasing a cat.Training is important!LOL..We lost our dog to cancer 6 months ago, and I really miss having a friends foot steps behind me. Though he was not a dane, he was very much loved. We are located in St. Catharines, Ontario. We own our home
in a quiet neighbourhood. It is not a rural location but our lot is 60 by
180ft and securely fenced ( 8ft high privacy fence). Across the street there
is a school yard.We have three children. There ages are girl -11yrs, boy -
2yrs, girl- 5months.We have done animal rescue and fostering in the past and
teach our children to respect and value animals as they would any family
member. We lead by example. My husband and I have been married for 12+ years.
I am a stay at home mom(on Maternity Leave) from a nursing home.If I return
to work it will only be once a week when my husband is home to be with the
children and* new* dog. My husband works 60++hours a week.I leave the house only twice a week, on Saturdays to pay
bills, shop ect..Our new dog will accompany me (weather permitting) not too
hot. On Sundays we try to have a family day.We visit relatives, go fishing
ect...the new dog as an important family member will come along just as our
other dog did. We drive a mini van. There is an entire bench seat empty and
well worn. This seat comes fully equipped with chewed up seat belts and noisy
springs from bearing the weight of a 140lb dog....LOL.. It would be great if
our potential new dog prefers women as all day will be spent with me. The
babies and I walk daily. An older or disabled dog who can not walk far
distances would not be appropriate. We are experienced with large breeds. This
animal would never be kept outdoors or chained but will live comfortably in
the house, where all family members should be.Dogs are highly social animals
and isolation is the cruellest form of punishment to a dog. I am interested
in taking the dog to obedience classes. If not needed then for nothing else
other than socialization for us both..LOL..We have a male Chihuahua that
came to us as a foster but due to his past is not adoptable. We have recently
agreed to be his forever home.
Please submit an ad to the newsletter or look in the rescue directory. Thanks!
