Hi everyone...

My name is Chris. I work in a municipal shelter in Mass. We recently had two danes signed over to our shelter and I instantly fell in love with the blue merle girl :) I've always wanted a great dane (blue merle is my favorite) and I've recently been looking to add another dog to my crew. I have two greyhounds and a pitbull. I lost a greyhound a little over a year ago and thought it was time to adopt another and in walked the dane.

I brought her home Friday to see how she'd fit in and immediately was overwhelmed and thought I couldn't do this. She was so stressed out which had all of us stressed, but she's relaxed a bit more each day and seems to be fitting in nicely at this point. I thought she was about a year old, but found out today she is 8 months. I usually love older dogs and swore I'd never have a puppy, but it's kind of hard to see her as a puppy when she's 83 pounds. She's a sweetheart and I'm already in love. I've been reading this board for almost a week now. It seems to be a wealth of information and I'm sure I'll be asking a million questions.

I think I'm driving everyone at work nuts because I've already learned so much and they're sick of me talking about great danes :7

Welcome! I am so happy for you that everything is working out! As everyone will tell you, this place is addicting. :P I catch myself at lease twice a day logging on to see what else I can learn about this wonderful dane.

Welcome!

I believe there are a few of us Dane and Greyhound owners on this board. Are your Greys track drop-outs too?

Congrats on your new baby! This site is the most addictive place I have ever been! Don't expect to be able to just walk away from it.

Thanks for the welcome :) My greys are ex-racers yes. I adopted them all at 3½ years. My two remaining greys, Cuffy and Bianca, are 11½ and 9½. My Sadie passed away very suddenly last year. She was only 10½.

Great danes and greyhounds seem to go so well together. I had a feeling there would be more of us out there. I was worried since my hounds have really only been around greyhounds and can be snobs with other breeds. Plus they are both older. I'm amazed they are getting along so well with Mandy. They all run in the yard with her in the lead and they are playing (running) like they haven't in years. I think it's been so good for them to have a pup to play with. I just worry that it may be too much for them at times (like when Mandy has my 11½ year old greyhound's head in her mouth LOL). Whenever she does it, he just closes his eyes and makes a face like eww....droooool!

You can never ask too many questions. I think I post a question everyday. But, that's what this site is for :) . A lot of good experience dane owners in here. They are all eager to help (from what I've seen). Welcome.

I laughed out loud at this! Your description of "that Greyhound look" was perfect! My guy is 9 1/2 years young also. He gets this look all the time. He and my 5 1/2 year old Dane get along quite well now but it litterally took them 3 years to get to this point. They never really fought just ignored each other.

Good luck with your Dane!
