My 4 month old dane had surgery on a fluid filled pocket on her neck. This was about a week ago and today i was told that the or another pocket maybe filling up again. Her stiches are not out yet but there is lumpiness. My vet is excellent but is at a bit of a loss on this. He did send off the removed "stuff" to be tested and identified. I do know that the fluid was pink like blood and serum. It was not an abcess. The incision is 6 inches and in the collar area. Anyone have any ideas about this? Seen anything llike it? Any help would be welcome. Thanks!
LAST EDITED ON Sep-07-01 AT 05:28PM (PST)[p]Edema (fluid) at a wound site is not uncommon. Trauma of any kind results in the accumulation of fluid often. What was the original reason for the original "fluid pocket" and where is this wound exactly--in the joint, in the skin, in the muscle, bone??? It sounds like an area rich in many things. The first thing that leaps to mind in the lymph nodes. More info would help us help you.

Thanks jpy for answering my post. It is in the muscle- they had to go through several "layers". Thoughts are that it may be vaccine related but could be trauma from playing.
