Hello all,

My family and I were fortunate enough to be able to adopt a Merle Great Dane from a local Humane Society. His name is Sampson, he was malnurished and was kept in a cage half his size by the pervious owners! From the story I got from the the Humane Society is the mother was deathly affraid of him??? I would not know why for he is the gentlest, kindest, most loving sole I have ever met from the dog world. But because of being treated like he was he is thinner than he should be for his age (2). Also his back legs are hunched!!! He doesnt stand proud like he should. I havent been able to get him to our local vet, since we only adopted him monday of this week. The person at the Humane Society assured me that there vet said he would come out of his stance problem with exercise?? I hope he does but until I can get him into see our vet I will worry!!! But otherwise he is your typical loving Dane!!!

This is what he looks like after a good bath!!! He was filthy poor thing!!!! http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid92/p20113ccdcf94f3e21992647504dfdb8a/fa555f98.jpg

Hi and Welcome to DOL. Poor baby. Hopefully since you now have him out of that small crate and he is able to walk with no limitations in his environment his back legs will straighten out. Please let us know what your vet says.

Thanks all for the warm reception here! Since my last post Sampson has developed a slight head cold:-) He is doing better with his legs now!!! Which we were happy to see! He was wanting on the couch the second day we had him but didnt have the strength in his back legs. Well I think his legs are stronger because he has commandiered the couch!:o He is such a good boy and has become a charished and loved part of the family! We are so happy we had the chance to save him!!!
