Hi everyone.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holliday. I just wanted to learn more about the breed. My boyfriend had esxpressed interest in getting a dane (we are planning on getting married, so figured I bette get to know the breed). We wouldn't get one for a while, but I figured the more I know the better off I would be. We aren't looking to show or breed. We just want a pet. I do own two cats. They are really young right now (7 months old). I would love to hear some feed back on where would be a good place to get a dane, how to care for one, and any other information on them. Thanks guys.
Sabrina:)

Welcome to DOL. This is a great place to learn. Spend the day, week, month...you'll find you'll be here often.

Congratulations on your engagement. :) Your a smart lady learning about the breed now..before the purchase. There is much to know. Taking your time is essential. I would begin by visiting shows to search for a breeder. Even though you don't plan on showing this is the best route to take. A good breeder tries to better the breed (not just "looks" but temperament and healthwise as well) which is important if you want a longterm healthy sweet companion. There are hundreds of danes in rescue right now that were bred by the uninformed who have turned out with behavior and health issues and dumped off. A poorly bred dane will cost you money and heartache down the road.
If you go to the main "conference" page of DOL and click the topic headlines you will draw up a slew of previous posts on purchases, breeding, showing whatever. Theres some great reading there. Your in the right place! :)

Welcome Welcome,
This is the perfect place to learn everything there is to know about the Dane breed. This is where I came to learn dane-ology, lol, before I got my Porter. Search the archives and you will find answers to every question you have.

There's some great advice here on the board! Keep reading and go to a respectable breeder. It's worth the money. Rescue is always an option, then you can get a Dane who you can be assured (reasonably) that likes cats!!
