Hello, my name is Jo and I have a six month old female blue merle called Sapphire. She is gorgeous but she has strained her hip or knee (doing running skids around the garden!). She has had anti-inflammatories and is hardly limping at all now. The vet says to keep her calm and as still as possible for another week or two! She is having cartrophen injections and glucosamine & chrondroitin powder.

She has loads of chew bones and toys but she is going stir crazy! Any ideas on how to keep her amused for another week or two???

PS This website is a wonderful wonderful idea!

Oh my--poor you! and poor Sapphy!

How about grooming with a nice soft brush or mitt? My dogs love it and would like a lot more of it. It always relaxes them and induces sleepiness.

Take a large doggy treat and put in the toe of an old long sock. give it a twist and turn it inside out. Repeat until you run out of sock and knot the end. My pooches will work a long time trying to disect a sock to get to that one dog biscuit.

Good luck and welcome!

Welcome to DOL from Queensland.

Poor babe I know what it's like tring to keep a dane quiet, Ha, good luck.

If she loves her food a kong filled with peanut butter will keep her enertained for hours, or at the moment the pups are chewing on frozern carrots and loving them.

Hope she gets well soon

Karen.

Hi, welcome, I am from Perth Western Australia Too!

Tex broke his foot at a similar age doing exactly the same thing.

We also had to keep him calm.

The Kong idea with peanut butter (I froze it as well) really worked as did a marrowbone.

Hope she recovers soon.

Welcome to DOL !!! keeping an active Dane quiet is quite difficult. Does she have any interest in watching the television? My dalmatian and Dane will watch 102 dalmatians straight through. They love all the barking!!! :+ andi

Hello Ladylike

I'm not good at navigating the site myself but you can email the webmaster, there is a link and he has been really helpful to me when I need help. He replies really quickly. I am sure I just clicked on register now and then once registered you can click on post to do your own message.
