I became a proud new mommy on Saturday, when I got my first Great Dane puppy.. :) Stella's an 8-week-old black dane who has been keeping me on my toes since I brought her home.. :D I'm sure I will be needing advice from the more seasoned dane owners, so I'm glad to have found this website. Moreover, I am thrilled to find such a great discussion group devoted to this wonderful breed! :o
Happy New Year to all of you~

Welcome to DOL! This is definately the place to be for Q's on your new baby. My sister in law calls this "the support group for the crazy people who own great danes"! She just can't get past his size. If only she knew what she was missing. :)

Thanks everyone for the warm reception.. Stella's doing really well, although I'm a little worn out :D What I would like to know at this point is: When does the teething stop?

Teething???? Oh ya, clean your wounds well with lots of soap and water. Wrap in gauze (I buy mine by the case) and elevate your limbs by attaching them to the ceiling in your home. (12 foot ceilings are preferred) This method of elevating your limbs has the added benefit of making it impossible for you dane to continue "puppy biting" until he is tall enough to reach you. (approx. 3 mos) Good luck. :+ :7
P.S. Mine's teething ended at 6 mos.

Well, Ellen, thanks to your wit, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...:7 ;8 SIX months?! (sigh) Well, I'm trying to teach her the appropriate things on which she can unleash those shark teeth, and I think it's sinking in--she still attempts to nip at hands and toes, but the "leave it" command works much more quickly now...So maybe by three or four months it won't be so bad..:D hope springs eternal...

I thought mine stopped at 6 months, but Hannah decided to chew the corner of the wall in the kitchen. It is now my official "growth chart." Neither she not Sadie chew anywhere else.

Ohhhh I'm sorry! I thought others would chime in. I have been in a wise guy mood lately. :-) I remember how frustrated I was with my guy when he was little. There is alot of great advise in the training and behavior section on chewing. One thing I wish I had done though was to pick a couple of methods and stick to them even if they don't appear to be working. I think I was trying too many different things and so it probably confused him. One thing that really helped alot was bitter apple spray. Click the training and behavior headline and you'll see some titles come up or use the search engine and it'll pull them for you. Good luck and hang in there! (no pun intended :+ )

Thanks..I'll check that section out...I'm really getting addicted to this website. There's so much here (...so little time...) and everyone is so helpful! I did figure out that I need to feed Stella more..I think she has a high metabolism :9 I was going by the recommended measurements, but she just always seemed to want more, but I wasn't sure if she actually needed more. Anyway, she slept better last night, and I figure, as long as she doesn't get a pot belly (to go with those piggy noises she makes :7 ), she'll do better this way.
Anyway, thanks again for the encouragement!
