two different eye colors?

Is it ok for a mantle (mom is black - dad is harlequin with blue eyes) to have one dark brown eye and the other brown but with a blue outer ring??? Is that normal? How common is it? The blue ring isn't a sign of blindness - is it? Any one familiar please let me know. Thanks.

Kc has one blue eye the other is brown--his mother was Black and his dad was Harl--its normal--KC has has a ring of brown on his blue eye on the top part anyway--I love it! Deb

Genetic Mantles do NOT have blue eyes. And it's not "natural" for a dog to have a blue ring around a brown pigmented eye. So I'd have this dog seen by a veterinary opthamologist if this is an accurate description of the color of a mature Mantle Dane's eyes. If this is avery young puppy (under 4 mo.) then perhaps the puppy's eyes are still changing from the smokey-grey/blue color that is normal for puppies to the brown-to=yellow that is normal for an adult? But a genetic Mantle cannot have blue eyes. This dog might be a "cryptic merle" if it's got an eye that is varigated. A MANTLE should have two eyes of the same color. Always. So if you are unsure I'd think I'd have the dog seen by someone who knows more. There are several eye problems that start with the appearance of blue in the eye. IT would be a terrible shame to have strangers on the internet that have never seen your dog give you advice that resulted in an eye condition being missed as you didn't know and they didn't know.

My Trinity, a harlequin, has light brown eyes. She has a ring of blue around both eyes, and 1/3 of her right eye is blue. Her mom was black, and her dad was blue merle.
