View Full Version : Guests
Once again, we seem to have quite a few Guests (lurkers) viewing the Board. Please accept this invitation from all of us to click on "First time visitor? Please Register" and join in on the discussions. There’s nobody that's really dangerous here...well, maybe a few :+

hOW CAN I EVER BE A LURKER IN THE PAST???????
PLEASE REGISTER ( hello les québécois, i need partners here!)}> }>
Paul, what's a daily average on "lurkers" or a yearly total?
I've often wondered what the true "readership" is as opposed to the "membership". And I've wondered how many folks just drop in, get the information they're looking for, and go on.
And even more, I've wondered how many people have found their puppies here or avoided buying a puppy from a BYB because of what they read here. Of course, there's no way of knowing this one unless they sign in!
mp
It would take a while to figure this out, but in the last hour there were approx. 30 members and 26 guests at the Board. I'll see if I can grab better stats.
DOL gets approx 110,000 - 120,000 unique visits per month and is 1177.83 Megabytes in size.
Might be worth the time spent...it's "circulation" figures that influence advertisers in print and traditional electronic media.
I've always had the feeling that this site is much bigger than the registered membership and newletter recipient number reflect.
Can you sort out which guests are different individuals as opposed to one individual viewing several times a day?
mp
Hi,
Oh, I have had hundreds of requests over the years from companies (large and small) to advertise on DOL, but so far the membership and the other things I do on DOL have paid the bills for the site. Been doing so since April/99 (that's a big woohoo!!!) I guess I’m from the old school in thinking that websites should be for information gathering, not a storefront for other businesses.
It may come to a point where I need to add some offsite advertising, but I will be very choosy who I pick.
I’ll take a look at the overall stats and see what I can come up with.
BTW mp, aren't you an attorney? Just so happens I have a special for law firms this week :+

I was a lurker for awahile before I signed on. I got to tell ya I was rather intimidated by the knowledge of everyone here. I thought my gosh if I make a wrong statement I am doomed. But I got over that and have a great time since.:7

Nope, journalism/pr/technical writing. Doesn't hurt to be exclusive, but the stats would be interesting.

In my experience on DOL, people can make the most ignorant statements known to Danedom and still not be doomed. I recall one member whose first post wondered if it would ok to keep a Dane puppy in her garage. She learned from everyone's opinions and advice, both nice and "harsh," and became a well-respected member of DOL who <much> later purchased a show puppy from a reputable breeder. Unfortunately, she hasn't been posting lately, and I have been wondering how her pup is doing!
Anyway, my point is that even if you say or ask something that turns out to be "ridiculous," it is ok as long as you are willing to accept the opinions and advice that you are offered (regardless of whether you agree or not--just don't get overly defensive).
My two cents. So "Come on Down!"
Michelle :)

I always view the site and read the discussion board as a guest and then log on if I want to post.
