Congrats! That's something that I would be really interested in finding out about. What are the age limits, and is it the handling, or conformation, or what, that you are judged on? We have our first dane...who is 10 weeks , and I am looking into puppy classes and all now. Would love to learn what all is involved!
Great Job!

Junior showmanship is totally different from conformation (aka the breed ring). In juniors, the judge is supposed to be looking at the way you handle your dog, how it repsonds to you, & how you dress. You want to look very professional in juniors, its not so important in the breed ring, if you watch the danes, sometime people come just wearing jeans. Thats because in the breed ring, the judge looks at the dog, not the person handling it. Of course in juniors, judges do look at the dogs, & in the breed ring some judges look at the person handling the dog. In juniors there are 4 divisions:
1. Novice Junior-for boys & girls between 10-14 years old who have not gotten 3 first place win w/competition present.
2. Novice Senior- for boys & girl between 14-18 years old who have not gotten 3 first place wins w/competition present.
3. Open Junior- for boys & girls between 10-14 years old who have gotten 3 first place wins win the Novice class w/competition present.
4. Open Senior- for boys & girls between the ages of 14-18 years old who have gotten 3 first place wins in the Novice class w/competition present.
When first getting in Juniors, everyone starts in the Novice class...depending on your age you'd be in Novice Junior or Novice Senior. To move into the Open class, you need to have 3 first place wins in a novice class. Your wins have to be over competition, even if there's just one other person in your class, it counts. If you're the only person in your class that win doesn't count. After the judging of all for juniors divisios, the winners of each division come back in the ring for best junior. You get a point for each junior you defeat. There is a national ranking for juniors w/the higest point by breed, groups, state & country. I hope this helps, if you've got any other ?'s, feel free to email me at: anita_narayana@hotmail.com
