Just wondering if it's too early to get an idea on E.V.'s conformation. We are trying to decide if we should start getting into showing, it seems like fun (and work I know!) and we think she would enjoy it. She's 9.5 weeks here.

Good conformation at this time. Nice topline and croup. Good rear angulation.

If you want to show you need to contact your breeder... sooner the better.. since your pup was prob sold on limited reg. you have to have full reg to show.. pup looks great ;) but you want to make sure because full reg is more expensive than limited..

Hard for me to tell..are the ears cropped?? If not and you decide to show, you'll have an easier time with the ears cropped. :)

Yes DevilDog, her ears are cropped, but still healing currently so not taped up yet. She does have a white streak down the front of her chest and just a few toes, I've seen finished dogs with it, but does it make it harder for her to win?

White marks are a minor fault.. they don't count as much as actual conformation of the dog.. I believe..

From the AKC site http://www.akc.org/breeds/great_dane/

"Blue--The color shall be a pure steel blue. White markings at the chest and toes are not desirable."

So, that leads me to believe that they are minor faults. A dog can be finished with some white, it may prove to be a little more difficult for you to do so but, it is possible.

Also like Rebecca stated check with your breeder first as well as more than likely she was sold on a limited/pet registration which does not allow her to be entered into a show with the AKC.

Like stated above, call her and talk to her about you wanting to show. I'm pretty sure that she'll want updated pictures often to watch E.V. grow and might postpone the spay requirement to see how she looks full grown.

Thanks for the comments so far! We purchased EV with an open option to "see how she turned out" b.c she was exhibiting show potential as a pup and we just were not sure if we were ready to jump into the show world. After doing some research we've found some local shows within a reasonable drive and will be going out to watch a few to see if it is something we could enjoy. I just wondered if some of the more seasoned show-ers on here could give me an idea what to expect from EV as she's maturing.
Thanks again!

Can you PM me your breeders website and give me the names of the parents.

Its pretty tuff to critique a 9week old pup when you have no idea of his pedigree. There are some things that I see that look good, and some things that look questionable........but knowing the pedigree helps to explain some of it.

Full registration is not more expensive than limited. The "quality" of the pup determines the price.

Very nice puppy, can't wait to see what she looks like grown up.

After viewing the parents, the good/bad points I had are confirmed.

Possible drawbacks (of course wont know until maturity):
short muzzle, wide backskull (though it is a profile pic, after viewing these things hundreds of time, I immediately get a vibe......it isnt always right, but most of the time it is) short on leg/looong in back, no rear angulation........Im not sure how that croup is going to stay but right now it looks great, but as the pup matures and the rear straightens it may get steep.

Positives:

shoulders/placement looks good and topline looks great!

This pup is from Euro parents and I was going to put a link to the recent discussion on DOL about comparing the Euro Danes for the OP to go take a look, but now I cant find that thread!

It would be really nice to see this pup in a full profile pic again in about 4 months.........at that age he would be able to be shown (6 months old)......and do another possible evaluation.

Thanks for the wonderful and helpful comments! I know how hard it can be to judge such a young girl, but then again we were just curious :)

We will keep everyone updated on photos too! She is gaining nearly a pound per day while still remaining scrawny unless her belly is full of food! lol.

here's a suggestion...as soon as safe (health-wise), take her to a local show...you'll get a lot of comments, whether you ask for them or not! within 5 seconds of casually talking with breeders or owners at a local show, i was told she needed to lose weight...about 5 lbs. dane folks are not shy!
