Hey everyone! I'm just getting started in agility, and I'm curious what venues people here like to run in?

I'm going to be focusing on CPE when I get started. From what I hear its very relaxed, which is good for the novice handler and dog, and people are generally friendlier and less competitive. My friends with danes locally also do NADAC, but don't care for USDAA. I don't think they have done any AKC trials.

I can't do AKC because my dane is deaf, but luckily I have plenty of CPE, NADAC, and USDAA options in my area.

Hey there, Shana,

I'd definitely start wth CPE as it's relaxed and has pretty generous course times, etc., especially in Level 1. You can jump low and it's just lots of fun.

I haven't run in NADAC or USDAA, mostly b/c my plate is already too full with AKC, CPE, and obedience. USDAA is more hard-core and I don't want Sadie jumping 26".

The folks on the Yahoo Agilty Danes group will probably have more advice for you if you join up over there.

I'll have to check out the agility danes group. Are there any deaf danes on the list? I'm on the deaf agility dog list but most of them run BC's and aussies and similar breeds, and I am starting to think a super clingy, non-independent dane offers challenges they haven't had with their herding breeds.

There are aobout 8 CPE trials in the Portland area each year, and many more if I'm willing to drive a few hours. I'm totally excited to compete, but first I need to get Pix off my leg, she's like a magnet, right at my side no matter where I move. I'm going to kill myself one of these days on an obstacle if I'm not careful!
