anyone have experience with this type of food? My vet recommended Scienc Diet and that's what I've been feeding my puppy, not the puppy formula though. And now she just won't eat it anymore. I was at the pet supply store today and the owner suggested Innova. He said there wasn't as much corn in it and there was more balance in the food, kind of like a human diet. I want to get off Science Diet. THanks!

I've only heard good things about Innova. It doesn't contain a lot of the junk that goes into many other dog foods. Just make sure you keep it fresh by using appropriate containers for storage, since it also doesn't contain as many preservatives. If your dog does well on it (good stools, etc) I would say go with it. Most dogs require less quanity of food on Innova also. Don't forget to check the protein content too!

Michelle is right about Innova. I have been feeding it for almost three years, and have great success on it. My two young danes, Livvy 2 1/2 and Daphne, 1 1/2, have both been on it since they were 9weeks old. I do feed a lot less then other foods, and they both look great, maintain their weight, have only two little, bm's per day, and have great energy. They both love the food too. I only put a little tepid water on the food, stir it around and feed two times per day. I keep my food in a container, and go through a bag (32#) in about 2 1/2 weeks.

One hint, whatever food you switch over to for your dane, do it gradually. Mix the old with the new for about a week, feeding more of the new each day until that is all you are feeding. The dog might get diahrea if you don't do this!

Hope this helps!

Kristen, how much do you pay for a 32 lb. bag of Innova? Do you get it at Petsmart there? I need to go by the local petsmart and see what they're carrying around here these days. I'm still having a difficult time finding Eagle anywhere, but I may ask if they'd consider stocking it if I buy only from them. Just curious about the price of Innova. Thanks, Amanda

Hey Amanda,

Hope your finals went well! I pay $32.10 per bag of Innova, and I buy it at my local feed store. I am the only one who buys it, they get it especially for me :) Do you have a local feed store? They might stock it for you!

BTW, did you get my DOL email from the other day?

Kristen, that's a pretty good price for food. I checked with one local feed store about Eagle Pack but their distributor doesn't carry it or something. I suppose I could ask about Innova.

I did get your message via DOL the other day--I've just been so busy that today is the first time I've really done anything on DOL for the last couple days or so--plus I haven't been doing much emailing either--still have a week of finals to go! I was planning to write you back, but have just been so busy. I'll go back and take a look at it. Thanks for the email though--helps to have someone to relate to and talk with, LOL! Kiss the dane babies for me! Amanda

Amanda, Did you know that the Eagle website has a number to call and they'll tell who stocks it local to you? I buy mine from a rinky-dink little pet supply store and they order it for me in bulk.

Okay I'm sold! Thanks you guys for all the information. The guy at the pet supply store here was very very nice and gave me some samples to try. he gave me both the puppy and adult bags. I mixed the adult sample with my old food because the protein content was lower. Amira, my puppy, seemed to like it. I am defintely going back tomorrow to get a bigger bag. I haven't mixed anymore because my poor pup was spayed today. I feel so bad for her, poor thing she's been sleeping since I got her home. My vet said she bled more than usual but other than that, the surgery went well. Thanks again for the replies! :)

They also have links on the Eagle web site for some places to mail order it at what looks like really good prices.
