Is it true that vitamin B12 helps increase appetite?

I know that b12 can increase energy, in turn I would make the guess due to the increased activity, the appetite would go up. Just my .02$

Gwenna what do you mean? You've used it and it increased appetite or it increased energy?

I eat a TON of vitamins, particularly the B varieties. It does give me a lot of energy. Also, upon advice from my doctor, I take Aller-C caplets. They are 750mg of Vit C, and I'm supposed to take between 4,000-6,000 mg daily. It has seemed to help my allergy/sinus woes, adn the B vitamins really pep me up. It didn't dawn on me until I read this post that increased energy and all that would mean increased appetite; I figured I am just a little oinker when it comes time to sit at the table.

It was a common practice at our clinic to give a shot of Vit B complex to dogs/cats to help stimulate appetite. I'm not sure, though, if was given only for that purpose or if it just happened to be a nice "side effect".

In my experience as an athlete, b12 increased energy. Our trainer told us that an increase in energy means the body is making better use of the stored calories, hence the energy. When you make better use of the stores, your body tells you to replenish that supply. It's the same theory as the "diet pills" that increase energy with caffeine. Increase energy = more burned calories = increase in desire to replenish.

Hope this helps.

B12 is I think niacin and can have some side effects if too much is givin. Redness of the skin, hot feeling on skin. Not sure how dogs will react but this is for people.
