I just found a very simple dog treat recipe that I 'tweaked' a bit...and my VERY finicky girl LOVES! I thought I'd share:

3 small jars (2.5oz) chicken or beef baby food

1/2 cup of cream of wheat cereal (NOT prepared, just the granules)

1/2 cup dried milk powder

Mix. You want to find the consistency of cookie dough...if there's a lot of humidity...you may need to add a lot more of the two dry ingredients. It needs to be dry enough to pick up and form into balls.

Roll into small balls. Put on a well greased cookie sheet. Don't worry about putting them too close together, they won't spread. Press down slightly with a fork. Bake at 350 for 7-9 minutes. I take them out while they're still soft and chewy. If your dog prefers crunchier treats, bake a couple of extra minutes.

Store in fridge or freezer.

Yum-o...at least that's what Dayzi says! ;)

Would you mind adding your recipe to the "Counter Surfers" (http://dolforum.com/forum/group.php?groupid=10) community group? I'm trying to get a bunch of DOLers recipes in one place.

I just made a batch of these. They were so easy and Roxy loved them.

FYI- I didn't use the Cream of Wheat. I used Oat Bran Hot Cereal instead (picked it up by mistake but I guess it worked just fine since they were a big hit!).

And thanks for sharing!

I'm making these today! Just an FYI:

I decided to buy organic baby food. I couldn't find plain chicken/beef, so bought chicken/sweet potato "dinner". It's much more runny than regular chicken. So, if you use a combo, you'll need to double the dry ingredients! Will do plain chicken next time!roflmao

But, they are a hit just the same. THX for the recipe.

I'm assuming so...there are no 'raw' ingredients in this recipe. Dayzi also eats a lot of kibble-type food.

I also made this using Organic (adult not baby food) apple sauce. And they turned out great. I did have to add just a little more dry ingred. Roxy loved them.

This is a cooked recipe with grains -- nothing to do with a raw diet at all! Raw-feeding is feeding raw meat, bone and organs.

FYI people if you are buying baby foods make sure they do not contain onion, as it is toxic do dogs, and it is cumulative. Every bit you feed counts.

I'm still trying out these cookies.

The new batch I made, I used rinsed drained canned carrots. I just mashed them up & mixed with the other ingred. I did cook them longer (10-15 min). The dogs loved them.

Next I'm going to try fresh blueberries.

And just an FYI- DO as U4BOYZ said and keep frozen or in the fridg. They will mold otherwise.

I just made these but subbed rice flour for the cream of wheat, I have a lab that has a wheat allergy. Well, they all got one and no one has keeled over yet, and they all wanted more, so I would call it a success!
(had to cook for about 11 minutes)

I'm still making them left and right. yay Dayzi is a VERY picky eater...I've never found ONE store-bought treat she'll eat and I've bought countless different brands/varieties...so I'm thrilled to be able to cook a snack she'll enjoy. If you haven't tried the recipe, I would encourage you to. It couldn't be cheaper or easier. I'm going to try a few stir-ins next time around. I'm loving the carrot and blueberry ideas. ;)
