Hi All,
I'm looking for some direction...
I don't have a Dane, I have a Mastif mix. I must say that this forum has the most information from real life experiences. Thank you to all that posted you experiences.
In Feb 2010 my boy bloated. My husband just happen to come home very late and woke me up telling me that Orion didn't look so good. I came down the stair and he was laying there panting and drooling. For same reason I just knew that it was bloat. I don't know how. We rushed him to the Emergency Vet. Sure enough it was bloat. He stomach had turned almost completely. He was saved and his stomach is attached to his ribs. All was well for almost a year.
Just a week ago, I came home from work and he had bloated again. I tried giving him Simethicone. That didn't work. I does him again... nothing. We rushed him to the vet. He was x-rayed and tubed. He stayed for observaion. I picked him up the next day and all was good.

Becasue the nightmare was starting all over again...I purchaed bloat busted from natures farmacy just in case. Yesterday, I got a call from my in-laws (i asked them to check in on Orion) he was bloating again. I am in the process of switching him to a grain free diet. He takes 2 pepsid in the AM and bloat buster maintainence (1ml) before eating in the AM and the PM. This is mixed with yogurt. He eats Blue Buffalo Wilderness duck 2 cups AM and 2 cups PM. He does not have a raised dish however he does have a dish with pockets to slow his eating. Any thought on what I can change would be great.

So sorry! Wow, 3 times, I can only imagine how scary this is. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions. I know others will chime in with recommendations. My thoughts are with you & your gorgeous pup!

All i can add is to feed him 6 small meals a day.I know this is hard for people that work but with my dog is was the only thing that helped.

I agree many small meals, and I give simithicone 2x day as a preventative as well as antacid. Jazz has a significan bloat history it is a daily battle. She bloated on kibble and Raw, for her stress is a huge factor such as fireworks and even the most recent was after a prolonged illness and weekend at vet clinic where the brought her out the owaiting room to wait with me as she "wasn't doing well" in the run.

Good luck!

Em

Thank you for letting me become a member of your group and thanks for you sweet words. Sadly, today, Orion move on to a better less painful place. A place where he can roll in the grass and lay in the sun. He will be forever in my heart.anglefly
